Back to School Backpack Campaign 2023

HoH would like to provide 1000 back to school backpacks filled with essential school stationary in rucksacks in primary (500) and secondary (500) schools for children of low income/disadvantaged backgrounds.

Many of us have been experiencing struggles as a result of the high cost of living. However, we need to spare a moment for those vulnerable families who have to make the decision between heat or eat. These families can’t even contemplate entertaining the idea of providing their children with basics items we sometimes take for granted.

With the cost of living crisis now being faced by thousands of families all over the UK and globally, food banks and partner charities are all sadly seeing a raise in the number of families attending as they seek support for basic essentials.

Our project will provide essential school supplies to children of struggling families due to the high cost of living and those that come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of these children are on the free school meal scheme.

About the Packs:

HoH have designed back packs according to the childrens’ ages and school requirements:

All back packs will include as standard –
Reusable water flask
Stationary sets (folder, dividers, notebook, sticky notes, pens, pencils, rubber, glue stick, sharpener, pencil case, ruler, tape, highlighters)
Colour pencils

Secondary school back packs
the above standard items plus –
Scientific calculator
Math set (compass, pencil, ruler, eraser, protractor, sharpener, 2 set squares)

Primary school back packs
the above standard items plus –
Lunch bag
Activity books

When, Where and with Who?

HoH are working with following food banks, partner charities, schools and councils to identify the growing need and necessity to help these children by providing them with the basic school supplies to assist them with their education.  This will allow them to have the right tools to encourage them to learn and feel the sense of belonging as some are socially excluded due to their circumstances.    Sadly, the team are now seeing more and more children accompanying parents to outreach drives and we will be handing out the back to school backpacks at our outreach drives through the summer and autumn campaigns.

The back to school backpack campaign will cover the following areas –

  • Acton (Acton Homelesss Concern)
  • Brent (Sufra NW London)
  • Ealing (Ealing Soup Kitchen)
  • Leicester (Midland Langar Seva Society)
  • Watford (local schools)
  • Hertfordshire
  • Hounslow (Open Kitchen)
  • Milton Keynes (MK Store)
  • Shoreditch (The Little Things)
